Default Ladder Unlocking?

I was wondering if anyone had heard any whispers about when the ladder would next unlock and what format the next championship series would take?

I am hoping that we get longer seasons this time to give the ELO a proper chance to settle and to encourage balanced teams a little.

Only word on the subject I know about was on TGH:

I've heard rumors in GWP that it could be weeks from now. I'm sceptical though.

I dont have anything against ladder lock, its a good chance to try out some new stuff and refine old builds. This has actually been the best lock I can remember for meeting "proper" teams running "proper" builds, instead of the usual proliferation of pallyway and henchway.

I just wanted to know when it unlocked so we could decide if we had time to devlop a whole new build concept between now and unlock. Looks like we will.

I agree. Some of the teams we've met probably aren't playing at full potential, but most seem to be running serious builds.

The biggest issue I have with long ladder locks is how difficult it becomes to tell a guild's skill from their rank. A lot of guilds see improvement even over the course of a few weeks, and guilds that were formed shortly before or during the ladder lock have low rating.

I still prefer more 'Fun Seasons' to long periods of ladder lock, but this hasn't been nearly as bad as the others.

as with the majority of guilds, player skil lwill increase with playtime / expierence. so more lower ranked guilds that have players with potential will fair better during ladder locks than during ladder unlocks. also with prolonged ladder locks you get an amazing number of "smurf" guilds, guilds that for whatever reason break up, and newly reformed guilds that love to farm noobs all ladd lock.

I don't see this. How does any competitive guild, lower ranked or not, fair better in a ladder lock environment? You are unable to move to the rank you should be at, you are playing in an environment where teams aren't playing with rating at risk, and you are playing against guilds that also are not at their true rank.

'Smurf' is really the wrong term. Smurfing implies that you are in some way afraid of playing on your main; trying out new players, ladder manipulation etc. What you are reffering to is PuG GvG I would guess, simply a time killer during boring ladder lock.

Exactly my point... although i have to agree with patrograd and wasteland that level of guilds is better then in previous ladder locks, but still a lot of experimenting builds, higher percentage of henchway and a lot of gimmicks appear in the ladder lock time, since there is nothing at stake...

There are a lot of people running stupid things in the lock, like 8 pally's, and more henchway however. If you aren't looking forward to the GvG season, the only winning answer is to not play.

Ladder lock wouldn't be so bad except, over 9/10ths of the teams I play either sport some cruddy henchway, or some other form on non-serious build, or the team resign quits in the first couple of minutes because they get pushed back from the flagstand or fail at their mass-gank of the GuildLord.

Even if the rankings don't mean anything, imo they should at least have the ladder unlocked just for the sake of taking it more serious. Since even without the ladder ranks being counted towards a championship, I'm willing to bet most guilds would rather not be ranked 2,000+ because they keep running henchway.

you can't get mad at people for doing stupid things during the ladder lock, for a few guilds the ladder lock is a time to burn of some steam and just have a good time. If you don't wanna run into pallys or into tir-smite or some other FOTM build, then i suggest you look into pve. For my guild we run grab and go most of the time during the ladder lock and i'm sure we still will when the ladder unlocks. with the ladder lock, my guild fights anywhere from rank 5000 guilds to top 100 guilds, not all of them are running crap builds so its a good way to let people who are new to the guild/game get some GvG time in, its also a great time to farm faction.

Even if the guilds are just looking to burn off some steam etc, they will get bored of it after several weeks (or nigh on a month or more) of lock.

They want to relax after their hard-worked GvGing during the season, but I mean almost everyone gets tired of a vacation if they're on it too long.

As for the PvE suggestion- I do a fair bit of that already just to keep my sanity from the embodiment of tantrums that is high-end PvP. Too bad PvPers in PvE overanalize things.
"I failed this PvE mission! What's wrong with me? Okay who wasn't doing their job? You're a mesmer. You should be shutting down the boss. You have the skills, shut them down."
OBJECTION!

To me, this ladder lock feels like if you would suddenly lock fame progression in HA. I'm a GvG player and the only way to measure my progression and the progression of my team is to look at the guild rating. Right now, it doesn't make much sense and motivation is slowly fading away, the same as if you would go in HA and not earn any fame for your progression.

So, two words to Anet: UNLOCK PLEASE!

Unlock please, I only play GW for gvg, and ladder has been locked for way too long now, and I just don't care if War Machine needs to relax, there are thousands of guilds that'd like to relax playing..
